The Department of Education which started 52 years ago in 1967 has indeed come a long way. Shri. A. Goswami was the pioneer who started our department and from then onwards we have had Smti. W.M. Tariang who joined in 1972 and retired in 1994, Smti H.S. Shullai who joined on the 15th of May 1982 and retired on the 28thof February 2003, Late Smti J. Pala who joined on the 11th of December 1974 and retired on the 1st of march 2008, Smti.M.M.Syngngai who joined on the 4th of September 1981 and retired on the 28th 0f February 2009 , Dr.(Ms) Q.Lyngdoh who joined on the 21st of February 1995 and retired on the 29th February 2008, Dr.B. B. Rymbai who joined on the 3rd of September 2003 and then joined NEHU on the 12th July 2006. The annual intake of fresh Major Students has gradually increased from around 25 in the 1990s to 50 in the early part of this century and further to 70 at present. Over 200 applications are received at the start of a new academic session for the limited seats. Our Department takes pride in the fact that we refuse to plateau and with the needs of the time we are frequently adapting, adopting and infusing what is in the best interest for our students.For our major students we conduct seminars and presentations; carry out small research /surveys to hone their inherent skills, inculcate the spirit of teamwork, instill social values, and improve communication and delivery skills with the hope that all of these will have a positive impact in the future. We share a special bond with students in general but more so with our Major Students. This bond extends well beyond their years in the institution. We take great pride in our alumni who have spaced out across the district and state in a variety of fields or are pursuing or have pursued higher education. Like other Departments in the Institution, we went through a transitional phase with the introduction of the semester system in 2015.
