The journey of the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) at Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai began on April 18, 2017, with the government appointing Shri Subrata De, then HoD of Physics at KNGC, as the first Principal of B.Ed College, Mynthong, Jowai. The college became operational on the same day.
On December 6, 2018, the Government of Meghalaya notified the amalgamation of B.Ed College, Mynthong with Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai thereby qualifying it as a multidisciplinary institution eligible to apply for ITEP.
The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) granted provisional affiliation to KNGC on October 16 2020, for the B.A.B.Ed and B.Sc.B.Ed programmes at the secondary stage. Finally on March 3, 2023, KNGC, Jowai gets approval from NCTE, New Delhi to run the ITEP of b.A.B.Ed and B.Sc.B.Ed of one unit each from the academic year 2023 – 2024. KNGC was among the 42 institutions across India recognized in the first pilot phase of this NCTE initiative and is proud to be the first institution in Meghalaya to offer this transformative teacher education programme. The official inauguration of the ITEP programme took place on September 17, 2024, by Shri Rakkam A Sangma, Honourable Minister of Education, Government of Meghalaya.
