NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
The main objective of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is to develop the personality of the volunteers through community service. It aims at inculcating amongst the volunteers a spirit of teamwork, service to the community they live in and character building, which ultimately leads to the development of their personalities. The students of the college are encouraged to join the NSS. Details may be obtained from the NSS Programme Officer.
CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINE
- Students should observe the code of conduct, decency and discipline both inside and outside the campus.
- Smoking and use of intoxicants is strictly prohibited.
- Mobile Phones are strictly prohibited inside the classroom and corridors of the College.
- Students should be well behaved and not disturb the classes.
- Each student must have a Student's Identity Card which is to be produced whenever asked for.
- Communal harmony is to be fostered by word and deed.
- Students found violating Conduct and Discipline will be expelled from the College.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) in Kiang Nangbah started in the eighties and has been in existence till today. The NSS is an Indian Government Public service programme sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs. The NSS was launched on 24th September 1969 which is aimed at developing students personality through community college. At present there are around two hundred NSS volunteers in the college.
The aim of the NSS unit of the college is to instill the idea of social welfare in students to provide service to the society without any remuneration .In doing so volunteers learn from the people how to lead a life despite scarcity of resources and also to render service in times of need to the society whenever the need arises.
NSS activities are of two types Regular activities and Special Camps. Regular activities include cleaning drives,afforestation, creating awareness on social problems, inviting doctors for health camps, training on life skills,leadership,and personality development, observance of road safety ,blood donation programmes, increasing the popularity of Yoga,Organising sporting activitities for orphanage homes and protecting the environment. Special Camps activities are conducted in the adopted village.
The NSS unit of the college conducts Special camps activities in the adopted village at Khonglah in west Jaintia Hills District. The village has been adopted from the year 2016 to 2018.Activities in the village include whitewashing of the village school in November 2016. In November 2017 activities include construction of a washing shed at the village and also conducting of programmes on TIME MANAGEMENT and SELF ESTEEM for the benefit of the students .In November 2018 special camp activities include conducting free eye camp checkup for the village, organizing essays,debate,singing and dancing competition.
Above all the NSS activities of the college were performed with enthusiasm among the NSS volunteers and at the same time the activities were appreciated by the people who had the opportunity to be served by the unit.
